What is Constitution Day?
September 17 is designated as Constitution Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787. In 2004, Senator Robert Byrd's amendment passed and the federal holiday came to be as we know it today.
"Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution." (Pub. L. 108–447, div. J, title I, sec. 111(b), Dec. 8, 2004, 118 Stat. 3344).
