Accessing the Bygdebøker (Farm Books) from UMN Libraries
We welcome everyone to use our bygdebøker (farm book) collection. Please note the following:
- Most of these books are available to members of the general public via interlibrary loan from your public library. Consult your nearest public library for assistance. See borrowing privileges for visitors for more information on using materials from the UMN Libraries.
- Some of the bygdebøkers are in closed stacks which are not accessible by the public. Consult Libraries Search to check on the location. For assistance, contact Brian Vetruba, European Studies Librarian.

Norwegian Histories Held at UMN Libraries
Below is a list of some of the communities covered by bygdebøker held in the University of Minnesota Libraries. All books are in the Wilson Library General Collection unless noted. If the community in which you are interested is not included on this list, try Libraries Search or the Library Catalog, for the name of the community as a subject or as a keyword. You can also try a subject search for farms--norway for a list of some, but not all, of the farms found in local histories, and norway--gazetteers for locations of farms. Also try a keyword search using the term bygdebok.
