Your first stop for IPA and diction resources: The Music Library and our digital collections
Through the Music Library, you can access a number of helpful diction resources. These include several databases:
- IPA SourceInternational Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcriptions and literal translations of opera arias and art song texts.
- Diction PoliceIncludes text readings of songs and arias by native speakers, phonetic transcription (IPA), translations into several languages, video tutorials, podcasts, webinars, diction tips, and diction lessons.
We also have a number of helpful print resources:
- Ron Jeffers et al.'s Translations and Annotations of Choral Repertoire: These print books are available in the Music Library's reference section. If you'd like to consult them while the Music Library is temporarily closed, contact Jessica (jabbazio@umn.edu) to make arrangements!
