Metadata tools
Many tools capture/create metadata. Most of the tools listed below capture technical metadata when run and have been listed in other 'categories' of tools on this page.
- Data AccessionerTransfer files from one media to another and capture descriptive and technical metadata in the process. MD5 checksums are used to verify the transfer. Most useful when files are part of an accession. Operating system: Mac/Windows
- DROIDDuring the process of file format identification technical file metadata is captured and checksums, if desired, can also be created. Operating system: Mac/Window
- Exact FileCreate and verify checksum values over time on single or multiple files. Choose from multiple checksum algorithms. Reports are saved as text files which can be read by checksum tools and text readers. Operating system: Windows
- HashMyFilesCreate checksums using multiple algorithms at the same time. Identify duplicate files. Reports can be saved as external documents for future reference. Operating system: Windows
- Karen's Directory PrinterA program that finds and allows you to remove duplicate files in one or more selected areas. Operating system: Windows
