LibGuides at the U of M Libraries

This guide serves as the documentation to LibGuides at the University of Minnesota Libraries. All users, regardless of previous LibGuides usage, should review the content on this guide.

General information

Reusing a box from the Reusable LibGuides Boxes guide ensures that content is maintained centrally.

In other words, you won't have to worry about broken links or making changes to the boxes you've mapped to your own guides (used the same boxes across all guides). Reusable boxes on the guide linked above are maintained by the LibGuides Administrators annually. If a box is not mapped to multiple guides, it is removed. Content must still be maintained by the creator. Please keep these guidelines in mind when creating reusable boxes.

Anyone is free to create reusable boxes as needed.

How to reuse a box

  1. Add a box to your guide.

  2. Choose the "reuse existing box" tab.

  3. Under "guide," type in "Reusable LibGuides Boxes."

  4. Select the box you'd like to add to your Guide.
Add a box has been selected, and we've tabbed over to "Reuse Existing Box". The Guide and Box fields are selected.
  5. Save your changes.

Note: If you select the checkbox to copy the box to your guide, you will be able to edit the content but the box will NOT be maintained or updated via the Reusable LibGuides Boxes guide. We recommend you leave the "copy" box unchecked so that content will be mapped from the central guide and update automatically.
You can also reuse boxes from any guide (for another example, your personal Sandbox guide). Talk to your colleagues about reusing boxes from other guides!
