It features the front and back covers, table of contents and frontispieces of Modern Japanese popular magazines published during late Meiji (1868-1912) to early Showa (1926-1989). The collection includes some women's magazines.

Women's contributions to the history of Japanese photography have been both underrepresented and undervalued in scholarly materials and knowledge production. The website launched in 2022 was a response to this dearth of resources on women in the history of Japanese photography for teaching purposes and is a starting point to inspire new directions in research.
